Court Security and Custodial Services

Transforming custodial services in Western Australia

Serco commenced its five-year CSCS contract with the Western Australia Department of Corrective Services on 31 July 2011, covering the major courts, prisons and police hubs throughout the State. The key services we provide in this contract are the operation of court custody centres, secure transportation of persons in custody to court and prisons, court security services, the management of persons in custody for their medical appointments and clearance of police lock-ups.

There are a number of innovations in this new contract which will see those in our care treated safely and cared for securely. For the first time in the service’s history, Serco is delivering nationally accredited Correctional Practice training to all staff; we have introduced robust systems and processes to identify, analyse, manage and mitigate risks; and we will be performing regular internal audits across all locations.

Serco is in the process of introducing the Serco Escort Record System (SERS) to support the safe management of people in custody and ensure transparency of service delivery. This proven technology is designed to achieve comprehensive, dynamic security at all times during the movement of people in custody.

Serco has engaged experts from across our business in Australia and the UK, in addition to external specialists in a variety of areas, including Indigenous needs, custodial operations, court security and service delivery. We have done this to ensure that we provide a tailored service and appropriate support to all those in our care as part of this contract.
