Southern Queensland Correctional Centre
Bringing purpose to prison life
Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) opened in December 2011. The 300-bed facility, located in Queensland's Lockyer Valley region, is the most modern prison in operation in Australia. Serco assisted the state government transfer operations to SQCC after managing Borallon Correctional Centre for approximately four years. Borallon, one of the state's oldest facilities, was a 490 bed male, medium and high security prison located near Ipswich in Queensland. The prison was formally decommissioned in February 2012.
Serco brings a range of strategies specific to the centre’s needs, including programmes to provide:
- A facility that contributes to the Queensland Government’s aim of developing safe and secure communities
- A challenging centre that provides a purposeful day for prisoners
- An appropriate, clean and healthy centre
- A vibrant, productive and profitable vocational training and industries program
- An extensive education program
A key differentiator of our winning bid was our capacity to provide a tailored solution addressing the unique needs of the Queensland Government, and the SQCC.
Serco Capability
