Melbourne Parks and Gardens

Since 1995 Serco has provided open space maintenance services to the north, west and south west of the City of Melbourne Council.

We provide the total facilities management and maintenance for all of the City of Melbourne Council parks and recreation assets covered in the area.

Additionally, we carry out annual condition audits for over 9000 assets. In this capacity we identify upgrading, capital investment, and replacement needs.

Specifically, our services include:

• Total facilities management for 10,000 assets
• Horticultural maintenance of sports fields, floral gardens, and over 160 hectares of national park grounds
• Property and infrastructure maintenance including plumbing, irrigation, lighting, playground inspections, and sports grounds maintenance
• Cleaning bbq areas, public toilets, open spaces and pavillions
• Waste recycling

We provide similar services to The University of Melbourne, Parkville and the Werribee Campuses.

The extended drought conditions in Victoria have prompted us to come up with new water conservation ideas. Our irrigation team saved up to 70 per cent of potable water in 2007 by developing an innovative irrigation system now used by all contractors across the city. Melbourne’s extensive collection of exotic and precious elm trees survived another hot summer thanks to the ingenuity of the Serco team.

Our horticultural team applied its expertise to design and cultivate a wetlands filtration precinct adjacent to the 2006 Commonwealth Games site in Melbourne. Providing a natural filtration system the water passing through the wetlands is stored in 25,000 litre holding tanks and used as an irrigation supply for Royal Park, once again saving valuable drinking water.
